We are studying the Westward Expansion : Lewis and Clark, Gold Rush , Oregon Trail etc.

Welcome to Social Studies! We are very excited to be learning about American History. We will begin where fifth grade left off. During the year, the students will be working in cooperative groups and participating in many hands-on learning experiences. We have four computers in our classroom and will taking many web quests to many exciting places during the year. The use of technology enables the students to see many new and interesting topics as well as see authentic pictures of artifacts and other historical items that enhance the student’s learning. Using the computer allows the topics that we read about to come to life and make the learning more meaningful. This year is sixth grade the students will be studying many exciting topics. During the first trimester, we will be studying Map Skills, the causes of the American Revolution, Heroes of the American Revolution, and many other important events in American History.
Some other topics we will be studying are the Constitution, the Industrial Revolution, Westward Expansion, Slavery, the Civil War, and Immigration.
In Social Studies, we believe you learn by doing. We will do role playing as well as having a hands- on experience learning about the ancient past and making connections to our everyday life today.
