Team Discovery - Weekly Updates
Alan Shawn Feinstein Middle School of Coventry

Team News:

The team classroom libraries are missing over 300 books.  Please search at home for our paperbacks—we need them returned.  We completed a locker

clean-out and had less than 20 books found.

Please be thorough in looking for all our books.

Thank you.

Homework Journals

Homework journals were assigned on Thursday, May 15th and were due Tuesday, May 20th. If your child has not yet completed these, please have them completed no later than May 30th.  They will not be accepted after this date.  ELA/HOMEWORK JOURNALS 9.doc

Writing / Reading Activities

We are continuing our unit on adventure stories and the study of historical figures from the Lewis and Clark expeditions.    We will be focusing on the development of characters within a story, character traits associated with explorers and adventurers, character's motivation for actions, types of conflict, and point-of-view.  We will be reading both fiction and non-fiction in this unit and using our information to write a play for the end of the year. Students will have multiple opportunities to utilize technology  during this unit.

This week, we will use one of my favorite picture books, Two Bad Ants by Chris Van Allsburg to review components of adventure stories and address point-of-view. It should be fun and I'm looking forward to the unit's continuation!
