Science Grades

We use Standards-Based grades.  You will each get five grades in science!

1. Science Processes: How well can you observe, predict, hypothesize, investigate, infer?  Use your brainpower to think like a scientist!

2. Science Concepts: Can you relate the facts and explain the ideas?  This grade reflects what you have shown about how much content you understand.

3. Written and Oral Communication: Can you use your language arts skills to communicate about science?  This includes notes, reports, stories and what you have to say in class!

4. Self-Directed Learner: Are you good at making sure you finish your work?  Do you like to pay attention to what’s going on and keep up with the class?

5. Teamwork and Collaboration: Did you know that science is almost always a team effort?  Groups of people work together to get results!

Grades: We use a four-point scale.  A zero indicates “no work submitted”.

4 = Exceeding the Standard

3 = Meeting the Standard

2 = Approaching the Standard

1 = Not at Standard

The student’s work is above and beyond what is required.

The student’s work has met all requirements.

The student’s work has some required elements or parts but does not fully meet the standard.

The student’s work has been submitted but may be incomplete, or poorly done.

Note: Individual rubrics will be used to assess each assignment.  However, the

  above rubric serves as a general guideline.
