7th Grade for the 2007-2008 School Year

NJHS members wishing to continue their status to become 2 year members must meet the criteria of keeping their content grades to no more than 5, 2.5’s, no grade lower than or equal to a 2.0, and all learner qualities must be at a 3 or higher.  Community service hours were due on March 7th, 2008.  Student lists will be posted on the NJHS bulletin board during the month of April.  Students should listen for the announcement that the 7th grade list has been finalized and should check to verify their name and status.  Those students who do not see their name and wish to continue their membership, will be required to go through the appeals process.

7th grade students who wish to join NJHS as new members must complete the applicationpacket and submit it to Mrs. Tefft or Ms. Wallace no later than Friday, May 9, 2008.   Due to the new membership procedures, these students will not be sought out, but rather will need to take the responsibility to obtain the packet themselves and submit all required paperwork.

6th Grade for 2008-2009 School Year

Beginning with the 2007-2008 school year, 6th grade students will not be inducted into National Junior Honor Society.  Students must demonstrate academic proficiency throughout this school year and continue their academic success into 7th grade.  Eligible students will be able to apply for NJHS membership as 7th graders.

In the beginning of the 7th grade year, every student will be given a folder with their name on it, labeled NJHS.  Inside the folder will be the application packet, consisting of directions for the letter of intent, criteria for NJHS, community service log and a student evaluation form.

It is the responsibility of each student to meet with their guidance counselor to get a printout of their 6th grade report card to demonstrate their academic progress.  They will need to attach a copy of their 7th grade trimester 2 report card as well.  In addition to the application process, students need to complete at least 20 hours of community service by the end of Trimester 2 in 7th grade.  These hours must be documented, with signatures of adults who witnessed the work being done, accompanied by a photograph.

The entire packet, the letter of intent, community service log, student evaluation form, and copies of 6th and 7th report cards need to be handed in no later than 2 weeks after receiving their T2 report card.  Any student who does not meet the NJHS criteria, will have the opportunity to make an appeal in his/her defense.  Please see appeal process.
