New Chapter/New Ending

Write a new ending for the story, or add an extra chapter. This is especially good if you hated the ending. Remember, you have to use a similar style and the ending has to make sense with the rest of the story.

Example: " Moving Still": The Circuit

The book concludes with the central character, a 13 year old 8th grade student,  being picked up at school and presumably deported to Mexico with his high school age brother.

As I was led from my classroom by la migra, I witnessed my teacher wipe a tear from her face.  Fear gripped me as these men in green ushered me to the back seat of the car.  I wondered what Papa and Mama would do when I and Roberto did not return from school.  Would they know?

We passed Papa's field and visions of my flying over them were clouded in desperation.  My only comfort was in the knowledge that Roberto would be with me by day's end.  Together we would surviv,e and I knew that he and I would get back to Santa Maria, our home.

Roberto was escorted out to meet me.  Anguish filled his face and I knew that we were doomed.  We would be leaving the land of promise, the land of education, the land of my future to return to the home of our birth.  His face gave away his... no, my desperation.

It seemed we traveled for days...but it was really hours.  We passed through the same wired fence that we crawled under years ago to start a new life.  Time was reversing itself, and as it did my life unraveled.

I had come to love my new country and its philosophy upon which it was founded. I reached into my shirt pocket for comfort.  Gently my fingers searched for the comfort of security.  Trembling I lifted my book and slowly searched for the words that had been cemented into my being.  As I read I mouthed, "We hold these truths to be self evident that all people are created equal and they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness..." And I believed...this would not be the end of my dream.
