PERSONALIZATION PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN (November 2007)

 

Activity/Series:  RE-EVALUATION/REVISION OF ADVISORY PROGRAM

Changes in Instruction:  What will teachers do to ensure students learn and develop the learning behaviors identified in the first column?  (Be sure that the instructional practices you identify will address every student learning behavior and connect to the Rhode Island Beginning Teacher Standards.)  Include all Changes in Instruction from the School Improvement Action Plan Template that this activity/series will impact.

 

Work collaboratively with their colleagues to create a learning community that benefits all students

Establish a collective vision and plan for the advisory program

Organize topics, themes, and structures that support the developmental needs of early adolescents (social/emotional)

Communicate clear behavioral expectations

Promote positive student-teacher interactions

 

Professional Development (PD) in support of Changing Instruction: For each change in instructional practice, detail the PD that will support making those changes. Include:

1.        Describe the PD.

2.        Who will facilitate the PD?

3.        When the PD is scheduled to take place.

4.        How will the professional development implementation be monitored?

Collaboration and Support: For each major PD program, describe how teachers will be provided opportunities for ongoing collaboration and discussion regarding their PD and putting it into practice.

 

Resources, School and District: What school-wide and district supports and resources will be necessary to implement the PD? Indicate the source of funds for each program of PD. (e. g., Article 31, Title I, etc.).

 

 

Evaluating Results/Reporting to Families and Community:

1.        What evidence will the school use to draw conclusions about the impact and effectiveness of each major PD program? 

2.        Who will be responsible for organizing the evaluation? 

3.        When will the evaluation activities take place and when will they be completed?

 1. Establish an advisory committee to do the following:

·         to define the purpose and goals of the current advisory program

·         analyze the effectiveness of the program to see if it is meeting the purpose and goals

·         communicate identified purpose and goals to the larger school community

·         organize the content, resources, and structure of the advisory program to better meet the needs of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.

·         Establish priority topics and themes

·         Create and implement an evaluation tool to analyze the effectiveness of program changes on student and teacher behaviors

2.      Administrative staff 

3.   The advisory committee will meet in early February to analyze and plan, present to staff in March (purpose and goals), reconvene twice in March to organize content, resources, and structure, and present to staff in May.

 

4.      Surveys of staff regarding the effectiveness of the current advisory program, feedback from staff on themes and topics as well as overall plan for each grade level.

 

The advisory committee will communicate periodically their progress and ideas to the staff seeking their input, feedback, and resources.

 Article 31 Funds-$4,000.00

  1. Teacher responses to the SALT Surveys and staff surveys as well as feedback to the purpose, goals, and plan.
  2. The administrative staff, advisory committee, and personalization action team.
  3. The evaluation will coincide with presentations to staff and resources developed during professional development.  It will be on-going between February and June.
