FAMILY ENGAGEMENT ACTION PLAN

 

Target: To increase the score earned on the National PTA Parent Involvement Schools of Excellence Certification Assessment Tool from 12.03 to a minimum of 15.0.

 

Result Statement: Students will be more engaged and perform academically at higher levels when stronger relationships exist between school, home, and the community.

 

 

Changes in student learning behavior: What will students do to reach the identified results? What new things will they do to learn? What things will they do more of?

Changing Instruction: What will teachers do to ensure students learn and develop the learning behaviors identified in the first column?

 

(Be sure that the instructional practices you identify will address every student learning behavior.)

Monitoring Progress with Timelines and Adjustments: How will we measure progress towards the changes in learning behavior and teaching that we want? How often will this occur? How will we keep the principal, parents, and SIT informed and involved?

 

Collaboration and Support: When will we use the information we get from monitoring to improve learning and teaching? When will we discuss the progress we are making?  

 

School and District Support and Resources: What support and resources will the school and district provide in order to achieve the results of this action plan?

Communicate with parents/families about individual and school-wide progress in a regular, meaningful, reciprocal approach through multiple avenues of communication

 

Work with team members to develop a team parent listserv

 

Design and identify opportunities for families to actively participate in school activities.

Provide opportunities for parents to review and provide input on their child’s Individual Learning Plan (ILP) (portfolio breakfast, parent conferences, etc).

 

Establish a stronger relationship with the PTSA by presenting at PTSA meetings (by department)

 

Utilize and communicate community resources.

 

Reflect on school-to-home communication and family/community involvement on a trimester basis.

 

Seek community involvement through service learning

 

Teachers will:

Assess their current level of family and community involvement on a trimester basis.

 

Document means and frequency of communication on both a collective and individual basis.

 

Survey families regarding their level of satisfaction with communication and involvement (at team level).

Teacher leaders will:

Distribute Family Engagement Policy and Effective Means of Communication

 

Develop and distribute a school-wide Parent Communication Log for teachers/teams to record data

 

Develop a school-wide parent survey to measure parent satisfaction with team communication and family involvement

Monitor team practice through CPT logs and team surveys

 

Develop policy and procedure for a parent volunteer program (library & classroom).

 

Develop a team reflection form to assess school-to-home communication and family/community involvement

 

Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions.

 

Develop a list of community resource and support services.

 

Develop two parent workshops to assist parents in understanding how to improve skills and perform well on performance assessments (October & January)

 

Provide professional development on web page design, development of listservs, and other means of communication

 

Use the PTA School of Excellence Assessment Tool to assess family engagement

Develop a calendar for monitoring CPT/parent logs
